Preparing for “Fruitfulness on the Frontline” – sermon

HumeRidge Church of Christ?is one of the churches using LICC‘s Fruitfulness on the Frontline material in February-March 2015. ?

Because HumeRidge??had not done the Life on the Frontline series previously, Associate Pastor Neale Prolloecks invited me to come and do some introductory teaching that would provide a background to the series that they could build on in the next 8 weeks.

You can watch a video of the morning service message here, or listen here.

Check out the fantastic frontline templates (made out of white corflute) that helped set the scene!

If you would like a copy of the sermon and a PDF of the PowerPoint slides, please drop me a line at info@malyonworkplace.org.au

?Fruitfulness on the Frontline? ? a six week course for equipping whole-life disciples

Fruitfulness on the FrontlineOur friends at the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity have done it again!

They have just released a resource package that will without doubt be an outstanding success and a critical resource in helping Christians to be fruitful on their frontlines – workplace or elsewhere.

Full details of the package can be found here but in summary: [Read more…] about ?Fruitfulness on the Frontline? ? a six week course for equipping whole-life disciples

“Thank God it’s Monday” – sermon series report

In August-September 2013, the Toowoomba Community Baptist Church conducted a six week sermon series on the topic, Thank God It?s Monday (TGIM).

Our goal was to attack the sacred-secular divide ? the pervasive belief that there are some segments of life that are really important to God (prayer, church services, church-based activities) while others are not (work, school, university, sports, the arts, music, sleep, hobbies etc.)

Our contention is that this belief undermines the effectiveness of the church in witness and evangelism by ignoring the contexts where Christians spend most of their time; the places where they have most opportunity to be fruitful; but also the places where they often struggle to see the relevance of their faith.

Our desire was to encourage our congregation to see themselves as full-time Christian workers (FTCW) wherever God has placed them.? We called these places frontlines – places where a Christian spends the majority of their time outside the church where they are in contact with non-Christians.? We challenged our people to see themselves afresh as whole-life disciples.

Th e Thanks God It’s Monday TCBC Report?report documents our first tiny steps over a six week period on what we suspect will be an ongoing journey as we think through the implications of what it means not just for individuals but also the church as a whole to have a commitment to being whole-life disciples.

“Life on the Frontline” – a six week course for equipping whole-life disciples

Life on the FrontlineHere at Malyon Workplace, we are keen to help people explore what it means to be a whole life disciple – to understand that being a disciple of Jesus is a 24/7 commitment, being his person wherever he has placed us in our normal, everyday lives. ?

For many of us, the workplace is the most significant setting, but most of us have many, many more frontlines – the gym, the shopping centre, the local school community, our neighbourhood, the kids sporting clubs and so on.

The?LICC?folk define the a person’s frontline as,?’… the place where you spend the majority of your time outside the church, where you are in contact with non-Christians.’ [Read more…] about “Life on the Frontline” – a six week course for equipping whole-life disciples

A Vision for Workplace Ministry – Mark Greene (Video)

In this video (7.33), Mark Greene of the?London Institute for Contemporary Christianity?outlines a vision for workplace ministry. ?This is an excellent introduction to the key issues associated with whole-life-discipleship and seeing our workplaces as frontline ministry opportunities.

Great discussion starter for home groups.

A prayer of dedication on the frontline

We have come to worship God,?but must leave to continue our worship.

We have come to experience God’s presence, ?but must leave to fully experience his presence.

We have come here to appreciate God’s holiness,?but must leave so his holiness can be seen in us.

We must leave Sunday to enter Monday,?and find Monday is as full of God as Sunday.

We must leave to enter our front lines,?and we discover God is there before us.

?We will return here in joy to meditate,?on the God who has loved us?wherever we’ve been.?

(This prayer is based on a prayer from Session 4 in the Life on the Frontline DVD series from the LICC?(p.22) ?Neil Parker modified the prayer for use at Toowoomba Community Baptist Church during the “Thank God It’s Monday” sermon series, August-September 2013. ?The prayer was very well received by a number of people in the congregation as expressing their desire to serve God on their frontline.)

I wasn’t ‘expecting’ that! – a visit to an ante-natal clinic

I visited my friend Helen (name changed to protect the innocent!) in her workplace recently ? the ante-natal clinic at the local hospital where she is a team manager and patient consultant.

I was there to drop off some resources for her home group including the DVD, Life on the Frontline – and what a frontline she has!

I was thinking that I would pop in, find out where Helen?s office was, sit down and have a cuppa and a quiet chat about the joys of working in an ante-natal clinic for half an hour or so.

But that was not what happened!? As I rounded the corner (being careful not to head left to the gynecological clinic), I was confronted with expectant women and bemused husbands on all sides.? [Read more…] about I wasn’t ‘expecting’ that! – a visit to an ante-natal clinic

Welcome to the Transforming Work Blog

Thanks for dropping by?the Malyon Workplace website. ?Malyon Workplace is an inititaive of Malyon College, the theological training arm of Queensland Baptists.

At Malyon, we are passionate about developing Christians of influence wherever they happen to be. While the College has a primary focus on training women and men for paid Christian service, we also recognise that the majority of Jesus’ followers are ‘full time Christian workers’ in a myriad of other contexts; on the frontlines representing Jesus and bringing kingdom values to bear.
