Redeeming Work: What does it mean? – Graham Hooper

Originally posted at Life@Work here.

Sometimes people writing or speaking about ?Faith and Work? use the term ?Redeeming work?. It?s not a term that appears in the Bible, and is often not well explained. I, for one, am left asking ?what does that really mean in my work situation?

In the Bible, to ?redeem? means to rescue or deliver? by payment of a price. Jesus Christ has paid the price to redeem us from our natural state of captivity to sin and its consequences in order to belong to him and to live for him ?whose service is perfect freedom?. What then does it mean in practical terms to say that our work is part of that redemption? [Read more…] about Redeeming Work: What does it mean? – Graham Hooper

Can We Ever Have Clarity On God?s Purpose For Our Life?

Many people today see their job as nothing more than a paycheck. But is one?s calling more than that? Steven Garber says yes. He says there is an intimate connection between one?s faith, vocation, and culture. ?Vocation is integral,? he says, ?not incidental to the missio Dei.? Steven explains how most of what God is doing in the world happens in and through the vocations of his people.

How Our Work Shapes Us – Kara Martin

Great article from Kara Martin describing how our work can shape and fashion us:

“We need to be more aware of the different forces working on us, while we work: shaping our worldview, forcing us to choose, impacting on our character. How do we react to different people that we work with? How does the culture of our workplace impact on us: affecting our behaviour, the way we see ourselves, the way others see us? How do we make decisions, and what do those decisions indicate about us? Does our working draw us toward God? Does our working make us feel alien toward our faith?”
